Principals and managers are responsible for the health and safety of all persons who work under their direction, have access to their workplaces or perform work activities under their control.

Checklists are useful and should be used by schools and workplaces to monitor health and safety practices and improve performance. Health and Safety Representative (HSR) involvement in checking sites for safety performance is recommended.

WHS Risk Management Registers can be used to identify risks in the workplace and determine ways to appropriately manage these issues. Further information on Risk Management is available from Internal Audit and Risk Management Services.

Health and Safety Committees should to be formed to ensure consultation and communication mechanisms are in place. Consultation helps to identify hazards and to develop and implement appropriate solutions.

Accidents and Incidents must be recorded and in serious instances the Regulator notified at WorkSafe Tasmania

Employee Assistance Program(EAP) - As a part of its commitment to work health and safety, DoE, in consultation with relevant unions has contracted Positive Solutions to provide independent and confidential counseling at no cost to all staff members and their immediate, dependent families.
