| Tony Hawk Lands First-Ever 900 |
| |
| On July 27th (that's today!), 1999, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk landed the
first-ever 900 on a skateboard. He landed it during a halfpipe competition at the
X Games. The 900 is considered one of skateboarding's most difficult tricks and
requires that the rider spin two-and-a-half rotations, or 900 degrees along their
longitudinal axis. Only four people have successfully landed this technically demanding
trick since Hawk, and he recently performed it again in 2011 at 43 years old. Through
the years Hawk has maintained his status as a skating superstar and remains one
of the most influential pioneers the world of skateboarding has ever seen. |
