Initially, the team was named Newton Heath L&YR. In 1902, the team got into serious financial trouble and neared bankruptcy. JH Davies saved the team and became its president, renaming the team Manchester United. The club was promoted and relegated several times during this period. <li class="centered-list cssClass-ul"> 1878 - In Newton Heath, the club was started by Lancashire and Yorkshire Company railroad workers under the name Newton Health Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club. </li> <li class="centered-list">1892 - Newton Heath was admitted as a member of the Football League.</li> <li class="centered-list">1893 - Bank Street Stadium became the club's home ground.</li> <li class="centered-list">1902 - Newton Heath was on the brink of bankruptcy and Bank Street Stadium was closed. The director of Manchester Breweries, John Henry Davies, saved the club from being dissolved. Newton Heath's name was changed to Manchester United. The team colors were changed to red, white and black. <li class="centered-list">1906 - Manchester United was promoted to Division One.</li> <li class="centered-list">1907-1908 - Manchester United won their first league championship.</li> <li class="centered-list">1908-1909 - Manchester United won their first F.A. Cup.</li> <li class="centered-list">1910 - The team sold Bank Street and moved to a new stadium, Old Trafford.</li> <li class="centered-list">1910-1911 - The team again won the Division One League Match and became the League Champions.</li> <li class="centered-list">1922 - After a period of decline, Manchester United was relegated to Division Two.</li> <li class="centered-list">1924-1925 - The team became the champions of Division Two. The team was promoted to Division One.</li> <li class="centered-list">1925 -1926 - The team became the semi-finalists of F.A.
